Shauns Games wants everyone to be able to read about, follow, and enjoy our games. We aim for shaunsgames.com to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and we check pages against those guidelines with automated tools and manual keyboard testing when we make changes.
What we have built in
- Text and interface colors chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios.
- A skip link, a single main heading per page, and logical heading order.
- Pages are built to work with a keyboard, with visible focus outlines.
- Descriptive text for images; decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
- Most animations, glitch effects, and the screensaver turn off or calm down when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Pages resize down to small phone screens without losing content.
Known limitations
- The Break Room Arcade games are drawn on a canvas and need quick reactions, so they are not usable with a screen reader. They are a bonus, and nothing on the site depends on them. On touch screens they include large on screen buttons.
- BYTE, the studio robot companion, can be sent back to the footer at any time from his chat window, and he stops walking around when your device asks for reduced motion. His chat works with a keyboard and screen readers.
- Some hidden secrets on the site are found by typing or clicking without on screen instructions. They are optional extras.
- Parts of the Protocol: Robot pages tell a story through deliberately unsettling, unusual presentation. The written information on those pages is always available as plain text.
