This policy explains what information Shauns Games LLC collects through shaunsgames.com, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect your name and email only if you sign up, we do not run analytics or ads, and the interactive parts of the site run inside your own browser.
1. Who We Are
Shauns Games LLC ("Shauns Games," "we," "us") is a single member game development studio based in Irvine, California. We operate shaunsgames.com and are developing Protocol: Robot. You can reach us at contact@shaunsgames.com.
2. What We Collect
Information you give us. If you submit the "Submit your application" signup form on the Protocol: Robot page, we receive your name, your email address, and the random in game reference number (for example PIS-1234-K) your browser generated for you. The form is processed by Formspree. We do not ask for or collect any other personal information through this site.
Technical information. Like every website, ours is delivered by a hosting provider. Our host, Cloudflare, processes basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, and the time of each request, so it can deliver the site and protect it from abuse. All fonts, images and scripts are served from our own domain, with one exception: the signup page loads its form script from unpkg.com, which receives your IP address and browser information when your browser requests that file.
Information that stays on your device. Parts of the site are an interactive story. To make that work, your browser saves small pieces of data in its own local storage, including a random employee reference number, a "behavioral record" (visit count, time on page, how often you switched tabs, went idle, or copied text, which pages and sections you viewed, and which hidden anomalies you found), your aptitude assessment result, your audio setting, visit counters, portal login attempts, your best memo review score, your break room arcade high scores, your friendship level with BYTE the studio robot (with the number of visits, pages and hints he remembers), how many terminal fortunes you have read, and which studio achievements you have unlocked. This data is created and kept only on your device. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, with one exception: if you choose to submit the signup form, your employee reference number is included with your submission. You can delete all of it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
A.R.I.A. The A.R.I.A. assistant on Protocol: Robot pages is a scripted fictional character, not a live AI service and not a person. Every answer was written in advance and is chosen by code that runs entirely in your browser. Whatever you type into A.R.I.A. is not sent anywhere, not stored, and is gone when you leave or reload the page. So that A.R.I.A. can appear to remember you, your browser keeps a short list of the subjects you asked about (for example "the release date"), how many times you have opened her, and which of her hidden secrets you found. Your actual words are never kept. Typing /clear in A.R.I.A. erases the subject list, and clearing this site's data erases everything.
BYTE. BYTE, the robot on our studio pages, is also a scripted fictional character that runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type to him is sent anywhere or stored. The one exception is a nickname: if you tell him "call me" followed by a name, your browser keeps that nickname so he can greet you. Say "forget my name" to remove it, or "reset" and confirm to wipe everything he remembers.
Facility audio. If you turn on facility audio, announcements are read aloud using your browser's built in speech feature. Some browsers use an online voice service run by the browser maker to do this. Only the announcement text is spoken, never anything you type.
What we do not collect. We do not use analytics tools, advertising cookies, tracking pixels, fingerprinting, or social media trackers. We do not collect sensitive personal information such as precise location, government identifiers, financial information, or health information. We do not set cookies ourselves; Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies to protect the site.
3. Why We Use It
We use your name and email only to tell you when Protocol: Robot launches on Steam, as described next to the signup form. We use technical information only to deliver the site, keep it secure, and fix problems. We do not use any of it for advertising. Every launch email we send will identify Shauns Games, include our postal address, and include a working unsubscribe link, and we honor unsubscribe requests promptly.
4. Who We Share It With
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the site, and only for that purpose: Formspree (form processing), Cloudflare (hosting and security), Google Workspace (our email), and unpkg (delivering the signup form script). Each is bound by its own privacy terms.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross context behavioral advertising. We have not done so in the past 12 months. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the studio.
5. How Long We Keep It
We keep signup information until you unsubscribe, ask us to delete it, or we no longer need it to notify you about the launch, whichever comes first. Hosting logs are kept by Cloudflare according to its own retention practices. Data in your browser's local storage stays until you clear it.
6. Your Privacy Rights
California's privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, give residents rights over their personal information. Shauns Games honors these rights for everyone, whether or not the law requires it of a studio our size. You have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected about you, where it came from, why, and who we shared it with.
- Delete personal information we collected from you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell or share it.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect any.
- Not be discriminated against for using any of these rights.
We extend these rights to every visitor, wherever you live. To make a request, email contact@shaunsgames.com from the address you signed up with, or tell us that address. We will verify your request by confirming you control that email address, and we will respond within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask the agent for proof of your permission.
Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. We honor Global Privacy Control signals as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Because we never sell, share, or track you across other websites, there is nothing further for the signal to switch off, and the site works the same either way. Our site responds to Do Not Track browser signals in the same way. No third party collects personal information about your online activities across different websites through our site.
California Shine the Light. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
7. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Third Party Links
The site links to Discord, YouTube, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, Mastodon, TikTok, and Steam. Those services are not operated by us and have their own privacy policies, which apply when you visit them.
9. Security
The site is served only over HTTPS and uses strict security headers. Signup data is held by our service providers, who use industry standard protections. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect so there is very little to protect in the first place.
10. Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use information you already gave us, we will tell you by email before it takes effect.
11. Visitors Outside the United States
The site is operated from California, and the service providers listed above may process information in the United States and other countries. If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another region with its own data protection law, we rely on your consent to process the name and email you submit, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by unsubscribing or emailing us. You can also ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your information, object to its use, and complain to your local data protection authority.
